The increase of suicides around the country by teens and young adults and those service members returning from the middle east, has begun to shed some light on depression. Depression is a painful and lonely disease for many, and is often shameful for those involved. Teen depression is very common. Adolescent males have the second-highest suicide rate in the country and many of these suicides are actually accidental because they are depressed. What we know is that depression is far more common in people than most of us realize. It is not clear if the incidence is rising or if we are just more aware. What is clear is people's awareness of the need to intervene rather than expect people to just snap out of it. Even then it may be too late to save those who just can not cope and find no other way to stop the pain, my hope with this blog is to honor those who struggle with depression and help those of us, who watch them suffer daily, have a place to understand. Please continue to watch this site as I add my thoughts and reflections.
